So my 4 year old decides to play rock star with my SM57 and now it doesn't work.

He couldn't have done too much damage, it didn't seem like he did much before I stopped him except maybe twist the top part a few times.

Is an SM57 easily opened up and looked at to see if it's just a matter of reattaching something? Or should I leave to those with actual training?

You should be able to unscrew the top part of the SM57 to expose the wires. There should be enough slack in the wires that they do not break when taken apart and reattached.

I think there was a problem with some fake SM57s from ebay where not enough slack was given in the wires and they would snap when you tried to unscrew the cap. Where did you get your 57 from?

Hey while your taking the mic apart stick in a Tab-funkenwerks transformer (75$) in your mic and your mic will thank you as well as your recordings it will be the best
150$ dynamic mic you ever heard. :)

Uhm...I got it from Ebay. :o

But it was from a pretty reputable seller. Mine doesn't unscrew though, it just keeps spinning when I turn the top.

not the top top....

see the crease on the body of the mic? that's where it will unscrew from

Right, I can unscrew the crease down there, the wires seem connected fine.

The problem seems to be at the top, that's where the little fella was playing with it and it seems a bit loose now.

Any way to get into that top section to look at things or will I mess things up trying to get in there?
