I recently discovered a low frequency rumbling, somewhat like the sea, on the signal from my Rode NT1. I am told I may have sent a power surge through it by failing to switch off the phantom power on my mixer
thus damaging the diaphragm. Is this likely? Or is there some other explanation for the noise (I've eliminated obvious sources such as earthing, and am fairly sure it's the mic itself which is damaged). Is this repairable, and if so, by whom? I live in the UK, and paid £110 second hand for my NT1 a few years ago, therefore the repair job would need to cost less than a new mic! :)
