Bit of a dilemma, I wanna take the finish off my prized guitar but 'm worried it could hurt the re-sale value...as you can see, shes a beauty.

What do you guys think?

I'd use lots of Acetone.....Make sure you soak it good, and the finish should come right off!!!

You'd never want to take the finish off of a guitar of that caliber. You could lose hundreds of dollars on resale value. I mean, look at the mint condition of the buttons. The colors, children, the colors!

:D

Yeah, I checked the serial number, it's a '52 vintage 'play-along' with original hardware. Gosh I dunno about this...

Whatever you do, take it to a pro. Seriously. That looks like polyurethane to me, and that stuff is a bitch to remove. You can try a heat gun and a hell of a lot of sandpaper, but you'd be better off taking it to an authorised luthier.

Btw, if you ever want to re-finish it, don't use nitro - especially not the stuff from re-ranch. I heard that if you use nitro, it can explode with the force of seventeen atom bombs, and release toxic gases that have not even been discovered yet. There was a guy in San Andreas a few years back, who was finishing an Epiphone Les Paul with spray cans of nitro, and his basement exploded with such force that his whole house was thrown into the air. It finally landed in a strange and distant land, where our amateur luthier was forced to befriend a lion, a tin man and a scarecrow, before inheriting a pair of red shoes that alowed him to get home again. All because he didn't go to a pro! So please don't go near nitro rattle-cans; you will most likely take out your entire neighbourhood. You have been warned.

damn 32-20, you have way too much time on your hands. :D

Yeah I agree Travis! :D I just wanted to ease up on some of the tension caused in here by that topic, I really like the Guitars and Basses forum, it's very helpful. This is just a little gag, nothing too serious.

yea, i probably should have kept my mouth shut in that thread and went on about my business. i'm like that sometimes though. you guys will have to overlook me.

Nah it's fine, so long as you have me to act like an idiot and cool everything out..it's like the time I suggested Light and Muttley have a guitar build-off. It's all good Travis!!

Just bash it around with a hammer and drag it behind a car for a few miles-you can sell it on ebay for a fortune as a reliced guitar! ;)

If it were mine, I would probably try to get that finish off with a sledgehammer. I'd want to be a bit careful, though. Sledgehammer-finish-removal is a delicate task.

i was just going to make you an offer on that piece, but if it's a gag...

shit. i want to complete my collection too. i have every vintage 'play-along' model there is.
