blame

thanks in advance,

James D.

i like this recording a lot, i saw your other thread about mixing and i think your just fine. Everything sounds pretty nice, im not too fond of the sound for the lead guitar, but its not really that big of a deal, especially if you like it.

Catchy tune = big bucks = keep playing like this!

- vocals + harmonies are great.
- main vocals seem a tiny bit muddy/cloudy and dry. What kind of mic are you using?
- lead guitar parts are excellent, nice tone to the guitar (creamy)
- nice rhythm parts

Good job.....

thanks guys... I use a b1 to track vocals...I need to get something a little more heavy duty...can you suggest anything?

Thanks again,

James

Hey guys,

I revised this mix one last time. I would really appreciate some feedback on this one...

Thanks,

Sorry james,
Something about your download site doesn't like my computer. I've tried a couple of times but it just goes into forever download mode.
From the comments above I'm sure this is a good piece of work.

nice tune...

parts seem balanced

overall the bottom is thin and the overly bright.

Hi hi

Finaly some music I can relate too 100 percent.

First of all I have lots of comments/advice on this one but while listening to it I was jumping up and down my chair and shaking my arms.
Really nice song !!

I searched for your last mix and you improved like 300 procent , nice remix !!

Drums
Snare: The basic sound is per-fect it just needs some Rverb.
Send it too a bus , gate the signal (if it isnt a 100 procent drumsample) and then add up the busfader to add the reverb , DONT OVERDO it !
Kick: Could use some (more) compression.

Piano
Is fighting with the vocal in the middle , pan it out a bit.
Or a nice trick I sometimes use is: boost some fq for around 1dB almost unaudible and cut some others for 1dB or 0,5dB and cut the boosted fq with the vocals and visa versa :)

Rhytm Guitars
You have got the basic guitarist in there I can hear.
They really have to scream for more gain , let them cry cry and cry and then put the gain down even more.
Seriously: A nice trick is to double track them, 1 ''high'' distorted and 1 low distorted. If you turn up the LOW distorted faders you will hear the guitars comming forward.
The second one is : Treble , they always want tooooo much treble in their guitars thus making the guitars alot thinner.

But hey that's recording, about the mixing : I'd add some 1k to add some body and turn them up a bit.

Note/Lead guitar
Try to double triple or quadtriple track those next time you record.
With a tight guitar player it will sound fatter every time.
Record a MAIN take and then add some lower distorted guitars (with different eq's on the amp)

Voice
Sounds awesome.

Greeeaattt songwriting , Keep up the good work !! :D :D

Thanks for the listen guys. Im glad you like the tune!

Rayc- you can take a listen at myspace.com/atlasiowa if you dont mind listening on myspace..

thanks again I will try to get some of your ideas into the mix!

Well done. Levels are well equaled out. Everything spread out nicely. Perhaps the whole mix is a bit dry. And, the vocals seem a bit dry.

thanks nick....Ill try to get some of your advice in... your setup is pretty awesome...by the way!

I swear this is the last time!!

Hey guys,

I did some work on this mix because I wasn't happy with the drum sound overall...Here is what I did...

I solod each entitee (snare(3 tracks with different gogs applied and mixed to taste) kick (3 tracks "") overheads and toms(I am still not in love with the toms.) and then bounced each sepparately. Then imported them back into the mix. Is this a common practice or am I just being retarded?...Either way I like these drums better than in the previous mix...

I duplicated the vocal tracks and added lots of reverb to the duplicates and brought their faders down and mixed to taste...

I also duplicated the guitars and fit the eq so that they didn't cancel themselves out...

Tell me what you think of this mix and I promise to never post this song again!!!

Blame(for real this time)

thanks again guys!,

James D.
