Ok - I've remixed this with the following changes:
- more emphasis on the rhythm guitars by adding around the 1.5-2.0 Khz area
- bit more reverb on everything
- took some highs off the drums and added some bottom
- vocals are pushed a little so they get "over" the guitars
- lead is flat eq - that was where it was before

I'm opening a new thread so you don't have to scroll so much....

Let me know what you think...

:) :D :) :D

Sounds better to me man....vocals have some prominence in the mix. No real nits at this point. Guitar tone is nice, and the guitars seem to have plenty of room. Solo is tasty, and sits well in the mix.

Sounding really good.

Thanks Dogman for listening again. Glad you find it sounds ok. I did an A-B comparison with the previous mix and this one sounds a bit brighter, overall.

I had reset all the sliders and eq's after the first mix  so I was hoping to find the right settings again and just improve upon them....

Thanks Again!

:D :) :D :)

On my way out the door....Definitely will listen in about an hour.

That's better.......not that the first mix was bad, this one seems more rounded....good work......now, I need to get off my ass and record something!

Ahhhhh, one of my favorites of yours. Sounds great, nice and full sound. I thought the other one was fine too, so what do I know? :D I think its the reverb that makes it a little bit fuller sounding.

jay - thanks for the listen - the tweaks to the guitars seemed to have evened it all out a bit....

DavidK - thanks for the kind words...and the addition of a bit more reverb did help a bit on this also...

:) :D :) :D

Gerry,
I don't know if it's a result of the MP3 processing etc but when one guitar has a slight pause there's a kind of pull to the other channel to hear the other fill the gap. It may also be a result of my head phone wearing.
It happens a couple of times in the 1st verse & once or twice thereafter.
Bung on some cans & listen - tell me I'm a Gumby & hearing things please.
The solo - stingingly good - it's perfect in the way the solo is in Slade's song Everday - develops the melody & jabs a few times too. Bliss.
The outro sustained chord is very nice too.

I don't think you're hearing things and you are definitely not a Gumby (a green plastic claymation character?) :) :D . I think that's a result of slightly out of sync playing between the two guitars. The panning is extra wide on the two guitars which probably makes it more noticeable. ;)

:) :D :) :D

I like it. I think it sounds fine now. :) I don't hear the issue Ray is talking about probably 'coz I'm on the home theater system and it doesn't do the whole left-right channel thing really well. :) It's a smaller home theater system.

Anyhoo, I was playing this to my friends last nite and they liked it too. My friend's wife especially liked You've got what it takes. :)

I'll take my manager's fee in $100 bills please. :p

Tha vocals are up front and sound good. I like the tone of everything. Snare might be a little boxy, maybe a slight cut around 200hz would help. That's the only thing I hear that might be noticeable. I really like the vocal sound and performance. Clean sounding and right on pitch. Good song.

Hey bigbubba - that l/r issue might be more a headphones thing :D, glad it sounds alright to you on your system. Thanks for promoting my tunes - do you take Canadian Tire money? (it just like real money  really!)
Take care!

Canadian Tire money? At least offer me toys from cereal boxes. :D.

Joking aside, it's one of those songs that I'd enjoy listening to when we were sitting drinking so I grabbed my friend's laptop and said, "You'd like this song...." :D Then I played the other one. Then we left or I probably would have played more tunes from you and from here. :)

Rami - Thanks for the very kind words. I'm trimming a bit off the drums at around 400k right now, so I'll tweak that to the 200k range as you recommend. I'm not done with this tune just yet. I found the original vocals were better so I will either re-record them on this version (easiest) or re-do the guitars on the original track. I also have to get Mike to add his magic on bass guitar which will require a complete rework on the mix I'm sure. Thanks again for the listen, the help with the mixes and the inspiration you provide here for many of us fellow hr types.

:) :D :) :D

This is one of the mixes, I had missed in the clinic. I found it and had a listen.

Whoaaaa Gerry !!! This kicks butt!! It sounds so live!!

I think the drums are held back a bit in depth or fullness..I can't put my ears on it.....too compressed? I am not sure.

Over all the song is great. This mix has picked up on some extra energy. Guitar tones and playing are down right rockin'!!

The vocals are awesome ido. Ohhh...the power of words interweaved with music...I was ready to come let you love me !!!. :D  :p :D

Sounds pretty good... Has a classic rock sound to me and sounds great for that style. At times the vocals almost seem too loud by 1db or so, maybe slight compression would help it out. Good vocal performance man... I'd say do a bit more with the drums, fills and cymbal crashes... Liven it up a bit.

Thanks for taking the time to dig this up and listen True....Glad you liked the guitars and vocals. I hope to get mjhamil to add some bass sometime and I think I might redo the vocals....

The drums are written in Cakewalk, played from my computer to my Tascam cassette w/DBX, then played/recorded on ADAT, and the final mixdown compressed using my Triple C compressor. Maybe that's the culprit!

I've been recording some tunes with mjhamil (Mike) on bass and vocals and Lee (drums) and I'll try and post something soon. The drums are mucho better in those takes.....

Take Care and thanks again.....

Thanks for listening monkeymanx and the kind words....

If I recall the main vocal has compression on it from a preset in my Triple C. That was as a result of a rec for same from posting my initial version. I must need to increase my threshold setting a bit to get it to compress a bit more.
I'll reset that when I retrack the vocals.

Drum programming could use some more to jazz them up, I agree and will look into a few more rolls in my library.....

Thanks Again!

Hey Gerry, listening to mix#2, rocks even more! Like what you did with the guitars. Just a fun tune, makes me want to dance. Knowing my music the following comment probably isn't the best to listen too: sounds like the vox stick up just a tad tad tad much on my system. Maybe 1dB like monkey said or some EQ blending. Still sounds great though the way it is, and yes I accept Canadian Tire $$$ :D Good work, enjoy this :)

Canadian Tire money is in the mail ;)
Thanks for listening to the remix Snakedog5050....glad you like the new guitar sounds. I'll keep the vocal level in check when mixing down after I re-record/add some parts.
