alright
Ive got a Tascam 38 and matching mixer
just got it all tweaked up
I also have an Alesis HD 24 with the updated converters
and finally an RME fireface 800 running on a mac windows side
I found the creative process to recording to get lost ever since I started recording on a DAW, so I always like the HD 24 and simulated a tape machine controls, easy simple, etc. Stop play ff rw etc.

Heres my dilemma.................................
I love the sound of analog
My Tape machine maintenance costs and tape and loading etc is quite high
The hd 24 is great but I just recorded with an ampex tube mic pre using an sm 58 into the rme and into the hd 24. To my ear the RME wins.
So I dont know if I should sell my tape machine and HD 24 and master the computer and go into tube preamps to get that sound.
Lost and confused, any help would be appreciated.

I'm not a tape guy so IDK about that. But I'd love to have me an hd24, if I had a nice big mixer or enough decent pre's to use it. Do you need 24 channels, and can you feed em all? That's just a bigger setup that'll cost a lot more, but it'll be sweeeeeeeet if you can.. :D If the fireface has enough inputs for you, that's a really nice piece, sounds great, just less channels. Still plenty for most HR types. Depends on what you want/need.

I think the most Ive ever recorded was 8 tracks at a time.
For the most part I record one track at a time. And thats pretty much the norm
