release time

I'm kind of new to this site and i was wondering if someone can help me out with this question. When mastering a track, is it better to have a longer release time instead of a shorter one so the track won't be "pumped up" unless that is how you want it to sound? What release time do you guys normally set it to?

You do what best serves the mix. I'll do a track with a near instant release, and the next track might have a release time of next Thursday.

Try it both ways and do what sounds best.
