Just wondering what anybodys favourite reference tracks are...not in regards to any style, rather just what you think is a well mixed album or record that you like referencing with..some of my personal favourites would be.. Abbey Road (beatles) De ja Vu (crosby, stills, nash, young) Ok Computer (radiohead) Actually and the Bends by radiohead as well. Actung Baby (U2) Blood on the tracks (bob dylan) Led zepplin 4, Stanley road (paul weller) Graceland (paul simon) Songs in the key of life (stevie wonder) Nevermind (nirvana).....er thats enough of that, could go on all day really....so what do you all think?

Good variety there.

I guess I don't have a set list of reference tunes/albums, but I often ask myself "What song does this tune sort of remind me of?" Sometimes, just a certain part of a song will make me wonder how a certain band or producer would mix a similar part and I'll go listen.

I do often find myself going to "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" (RHCP) for drum levels and sound...and "Abbey Road" or "Sgt. Pepper" for vocal levels and mixes.

Well, I've got five main references for my genre (alternative hard rock and pop):

1) Bon Jovi "Keep the Faith" album mixed by the GREAT Randall Staub

2) Nickelback "All the right reasons" album mixed by the GREAT Randall Staub and Mike Shipley

3) Theory of a Deadman "Gasoline" album, mixed by many greats, including Chris Lord-Alge

4) Avril Lavigne "Under my skin" album, mixed by Tom Lord-Alge and the GREAT Mister Randall Staub

5) Kelly Clarkson "Breakaway" mostly mixed by Serban Ghanea

Spot on with the drum sounds on Blood sugar sex magik, Its a tremendous album and the percussion really stands out and certainly Randall Staub is one of the finest mixers around for Rock/pop. Good call.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon ...another duh

"The Royal Scan" - Steely Dan

Everything in most 76-80 era Dan records just sit in the mix exceptionally well - amazing really.
