Here goes. I'd appreciate your input on this thanks guys.
I just used 2 mics a sennhieser e855 super cardiod and a cheap sdc
for both the guitar and vocals.
No tape involved just straight to daw.

I love this song. I think you did a nice job with it, but I also think it's a little off in the performance and production. The vocals get a little pitchy in spots, like you need it in a lower key, and the reverb is a little thick. I think it sounds kind of muddy. What happened at 3:17? Drop a pick? :D

I think i over did it in the mastering stage i'll go back and rework it i think and repost
thanks for the comments its appreciated

I'm re-listening on cans, so I can't be too critical. But as far as I can tell, the performance is much, much better. Your voice works much better in this range. Sounds on point. I still suspect the reverb/delay is kind of weird. Too thick. I'd like to hear it cleaner and more natural, but that's up to you.

No tape involved just straight to daw.

There's your problem. ;)

:D

The last version is a good improvement over the first try. Better key, and your singing is more in key.

Lose some of that reverb, and that 57 is picking up a bit too much in the S-zone...it could use a bit of roll-off.
I would also make the vocals a little lower in volume relative to the guitar. They come off boomy at times.

Also...you need to smoke a doobie and channel some Marley if you're going to do that sung proper justice. :)

Thanks guys
I guess i always do this with verb. I tend to roll off too much of the top end in the eq section.
I should have done the vocals to tape maybe Miro.
I was trying to keep the equipment down to a minumum. Hence the two mics.
Normally for acoustic stuff i'd do a mids side micing for the guitar. I just wanted to show that keeping things minimal doesnt mean its bad.
I was just happy i got a good capture on both instruments even if the vocals where a bit hot at times and the performance a bit lacking to my ears too.
I didnt want to make it too karaoke, i aint no Marley so i figure just sing it like me and make it mine in a small way.
Thanks again for the help guys it's appreciated.

Thanks Crowsoffritz
You must spread some more before giving it to Crowsoffritz again.
Greg and Miro consider your self repped thanks guys

Nice one kip. I really enjoyed that.

It's amazing the difference a tone makes, right?

You sound way more relaxed in my opinion.

It wasnt such a struggle to sing up to like it was in G key, it's true.
Way more fun thanks Steeno.
I think the new room panels made a considerable differance to the way the vocals recorded too.
Cant wait to get some more wood and build the rest now.

It's unreal the difference these things make man.

I though the sm7b didn't work well on my voice until I upgraded my preamps...

Then I thought the re20 wasn't great on my voice until I got these acoustic panels up.
That 'cheer down' is re20 all the way!!!!

So suits your voice. at least it doesnt sound as tinny as most of my mics. I thought it would be that fab Reslo that Stewart fixed up for you.
Most of the time i sing off axis now.
and i dont bother with a reflection filter as much.

Haven't actually tried the reslo with the panels up. I'll have to do that sometime.

Curiosity made me reach for the re20. I'm glad I did now. :)

Cool. I like a lot of verb and delay, but I think you could do with a little less of it here maybe.

There are some lines where the pitch is a bit problematic, but overall, you sound pretty relaxed.

I like the guitar tone for this. It's nice a full. Sounds kind of heavily compressed or something to me though...like it's a little choked or something...I dunno. It's subtle enough that I might be imagining it. There just doesn't seem to be as much air as I'd expect...thanks for sharing.
