Whats there website. What do people think of there mics ?

I'm assuming Red 5 Audio is what you are talking about, if not, delete my post and shoot me. But, their mics have had all good things said about them, along with awesome clips. Dot seems to be the one to talk to about this company because he'd had hands on experience if I remember right.

anyone any input on these... whats the differences... and are both shit that theres a better money wise option?

There other one is a vaccumm tube mic ...whats that?

Dot (Dan Richards) probably has more experience with these mics than anyone around. He's posted up different comments on this mic line. You might try searching here referencing his user name and "Red 5." You might also try the same over at Studio Forums and Harmony Central as I believe he's posted comments there as well.

Dan is the man on this subject ... keep trying to work out if I should be buying into Red5 too as one of the few exclusives we get here in the UK!! :)

the mic above for the money sounds amazing i think i might get it. Any sound clips of your setup? you have the mixer not the pres hm.. i dunno id just like to get the sound in the comp then eq etc it, is that not a good idea?

I don't tend to EQ on the way in, but that's a lot to do with the fact that I am mostly recording myself. A decent EQ section on the desk will serve me well for recording drums in future though. It's a decision. You don't need a mixer and I probably won't buy another, I'll go for a preamp at a time instead most likely.

No sound clips right now because my PC is not happy. Sorry!

No! I'm off to bed!!!

Another time perhaps, but you'll benefit more by asking on here, because I'm no expert.

We've been using every mic in the Red5 Audio line - even the newer RV6's - for quite a long time. The only mic they make that I don't have glowing things to say about is the small condenser RV4's. Just not impressed - and Red5 knows it. They're working on retooling or doing something else. Everything else is excellent. The RVD1 is a killer large dynamic for kick drum and bass instruments. The RV8 is a neutral and unhyped LDC with nice detail. RV10 - excellent neutral LDC multi-pattern.

We were so impressed with the RV8's that I told Red5 they'd work much better as OH mics on the Red5 drum mic kit, so they came out with the RVK7+ which has RV8's instead of the RV4 SDC's - and that's the best drum mic kit we've tested for the money, and the only drum mic kit in which we actually like every single mic in it.

You UK guys should jump on these mics. They have a 14-day trial period. You don't like - you send back. You have nothing to lose. These mics will be in the US before long. And there will be dealers and distributors... and the prices will go up.

And these mics are much higher quality than you would normally get in that price range because they offer their mics directly off the site.

So tell me - what should I get? Here's my mic list:

- SE Electronics SE2200 (not the newer 'A' version)
- Shure 545 (USA)
- Beyer Soundstar MkII
- Sennheiser E835 plus five E845s from my live stuff

You mean for UK people getting them, or for people in the US without ordering directly? Right now, I think the shipping charge to the US on the drum mic kits is something like $120.

I've heard nothing but good things about their kick drum mic, a large diaphragm dynamic. I'm still trying to figure out how to order one! ;)

yeah i was getting ready to ask dot....how much was it for you to get them to the US plus shipping

I don't know what the shipping to US for the Red5 mics, as we've never paid it. We've gotten all the mics in for review and beta testing. I've just emailed Red5 and will try to get some shipping amounts on their various products to the US.
