Click Here to hear a before and after power tube replacement clip for my 5150-II. It's a Green and Red Apple comparison because the amp settings were not the same... but the tone difference is evident. The JJs start at 28 seconds.

The tube replacement is a matched set of JJ Quad 6L6 biased to 18W. The amp is much tighter overall and especially the bottom end.

Just thought I'd share...

I listened. Did you replace with the same brand of tubes? I personally liked the old sound a little bit better as it was warmer. The new ones were a bit tighter, though. I remember once I replaced some groove tube E34L's in a Marshall jmp 2203 for some siemen's 6ca7's and really regretted it. I really like those e34l's.

thanks for taking a listen...

The previous tubes were Mesa STR 430s. I liked the Mesa tubes okay, but the JJs are significantly tighter, which I prefer. Also, the JJs are biased a bit higher 18W to 19W whereas the Mesa tubes were biased at about 17W.

The JJ clip is more scooped than the Mesa... intentionally. But the tighness I think is evident.
