Recording with Tracks

I primarily record vocals for people who bring in soundtracks bought from companies like Daywind. I'm recording the vocals 24 bit but the cd tracks, of course, are 16. How should I handle putting these two together? 1) Process the vocals and dither to 16, then match to the track or 2) Process both together, double dithering the soundtrack. 3) Something else? Thanks for the information!

Take a shot at this..
In your 24 (or likely 32 bit floating app like many are now) the 16 bit stuff will remain 16 untill you change something (anything) on it. Even adjusting the level means that math depth level is done at that precision in the mix.
So my take would be mix, save one full depth ('bounce to a mix track in the app?) and/or dither that on how ever you get to your final 16bit ver.
