Recording with the intent of triggering later?

Does anyone around here do this? I'm stick in between a rock and a hard place-
I'm trying to live up to a very punchy, sampled production standard but real drums recorded in a basement won't cut it like it used to (at least for me and in my area). Anyhow, my question is does anyone have any tips on how to effectively record so Drumagog-ing later will be most successful?

Gate?

I think it's best to close mic each drum, then insert a gate before Drumagog. It gets tricky with Ghost notes sometimes, so I suggest getting the best sound possible with close miking, so you can blend the real drum back in if you need it. Good luck. Rez

I'd get a set of DDRUM pro triggers, and record using them instead of the mics.

That way, you get the most accurate triggering.

Otherwise, close mic them as close as possible, with as little bleed as possible. The actual tone doesn't matter, but the amplitude does.

Or... If you want to blend in the real tone of the drum, do what RezN8 said. Or use triggers AND mics.
