Hi,

I'm very new to recording. I've been doing it for about a year now (with minidisc) with mixed results. Anyway I wanted to put some of my successful recordings on CD. I recorded the shows onto my computer with Sound Forge, however, when I went to insert the track markers with CDWave I decided to listen to it first and it sounded aweful. Completely distorted. It turns out that it was clipping the entire time it was recording. Even though the actual show was recorded at the perfect level.
Here's my problem:
The minidisc has no way of controlling the output levels so I'm left with Sound Forge.
Unfortunately I can find no way of lowering the input levels in Sound Forge. I was able to bring up the input meters, but this only lets me watch my great recording clip. Is there a way to control the recording levels or input levels in Sound Forge.

Please help, this is the only thing between me and a year's worth of great live shows.
Thanks.

windows audio properites

You can adjust your windows audio properites and with the mixer options you can lower the input levels...mic,line,cd,wav, etc to bypass sound forge, since I'm not that familair with it or what version of sound forge/soundforge studio you're using
Right click the little speaker on your task bar, and then "adjust audio properties"(win98)... then click on the recording icon and mixer window should appear where you can adjust levels

Sonic Foundry also has a Noise reduction plug-in that has a clipping restore filter, that produces some excellent results... its too spendy as far as I'm concerned, but it does a good job at restoring clipped audio

START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ENTERTAINMENT>VOLUME CONTROL>OPTIONS>PROPERTIES>RECORDING>OK. :D

OR........... what 2rain said, "Right click the little speaker on your task bar, and then "adjust audio properties"(win98)... then click on the recording icon and mixer window should appear where you can adjust levels".

spin
