I have a Yamaha MW10 mixer and a MobilePre USB. I want to record some drums, so i want one track for kick, one for snare, and two stereo overheads. How do I record this so that it is possible to adjust the volume levels of each track after the recording?

You don't. At least not with the setup you have. You just gotta get 'em as close as you can before recording.

To record the tracks the way you want to. You are going to need an audio interface with at least 4 inputs. 1 input for kick, 1 input for snare, 1 input for left overhead, 1 input for right overhead. The mobile pre does not have enough inputs to the computer to do what you want to do.

So then, if I want to record a song with 10 tracks, then do i need to get an audio interface with 10 inputs?

If you want to record all those tracks at the same time... yes. If not... no.

Okay, i think i get it now. Thanks you. So what about this mixer? Do I really need a mixer if i'm just doing small 2 Channel Audio Interface and stuff? If i need a better a mixer, what should i get?

You don't need another mixer.

At least not for now.

Those Yamaha mixers get good press all over the place for being quiet and flexible.

You'd need to spend twice as much for something like this to get the additional inputs you're talking about, and it's probably not the best use of your money at this point.

Monitors, room treatment and memory for your computer all come before another interface on the ssscientist 'importance to final product' meter.
