Ok so I am just starting out. I pretty much figured out Im going to start at 6 mics then move up from there. Ok so My quesion is what is a good recording mixer that can record 8 tracks at once. MY budget is about 400 but I could get more in necessary. It dont matter if its a USB or firewire because I have both imputs on my computer.

any advice?

Im running thew a macbook so that one wont work for me

i also looked at interfaces. Any reccomandaions on ones in my price range?

That should work fine with a Macbook, unless it's the cheapest old Macbook you can find....

I bought the 8-channel version for my kid. Sounds decent enough. Seems like it runs a bit warmer than a lot of gear, but the entire bottom of the 8-channel one is a heat sink.

Stay away from USB audio interfaces. Too slow. I doubt you could push 8 tracks at once through a USB 2 port.

I was sort of wondering the same thing as our original poster, however I already have a firewire 1814. say i were to buy this thing - would that make my firewire 1814 absolete?

I don't do much with the digital interface stuff, but since the firewire 1814 you already own has a lightpipe connection, you might be able to get something like this guy:

And just run it through the lightpipe connection on into the computer. Not sure - Just a thought, although I could very easily be wrong :)
