recording "what you hear"

Hey, I have an audigy 2, and it has that record "what you hear" feature. The only problem is, is that it often doesn't sound nearly as good as what I hear coming out of the speakers. This is a problem because it is the only way i can figure out how to record vst instruments like the B4 and The Grand into audio files, and not just Midi. Is there something I can do to improve the record what I hear thing? Or is there another way to render those midi/vst files as pure audio? Thanks for the help! - Mike DiSanto

i'd say check your signal chain and make sure everything is connected properly and check to see if your using the right cables

thanks for the reply, but there really isnt anything in my signal chain. its just an internal feature of my soundcard. it reroutes the output signal to the input. it just sounds lower quality for some reason. is there any other way i can physically route the output to the input, i tried it with cables but it just feeds back. thanks again.

I use a creative card and I turn off "What you Hear" and only use line-in in both creative and windows mixer. You should have inpout monitoring from your sound card and software that works better than "what you hear".

As Toki said: For recording, forget about "What U Hear". Use Line In.

But your sequenser (seems like you use Cubase, right?) should be able to bounce the VSTi's to disk. You might have to check the manual or wait for a Cubase-user to stop by.
