hello, I have a singer who's vocal's are all over the place, he's quite the metal singer, and his screaming is much louder that his singing voice... I am somewhat new to recording, and I was just wondering what I do to control his voice in the mix. I heard something about a compressor, but I dont know.. any suggestions?

Your definately going to want to look into compressing.....You can't track a vocalist like that w/o it IMO. If you are recording on computer or can dump the tracks on to a comp, you may be able to save the vocal tracks you've already got with compression.....If not, you might want to be a bit of a coach with dudes like this. If he's not too hot headed make sure you stress the importance of mic control...and if you don't know about that you should read about all the different mic control basic techniques....fade in's, fade out's etc..etc....Good mic control and judicial use of compression in combo will work wonders.
