Yes, indeed.

Sometimes, just for a challenge, I'll play the backing tracks to an entirely different song ... just to keep things interesting.

:D :D :D

What also helps me somtimes is to have two sets of headphones. (one can from each, held up with both hands) One song through one ear, and have the other ear listening to an entirley different song, while trying to capture the performance for song A **note, this is an extremely difficult technique and will take some getting used to. :p

i've found that i sing better while playing guitar, rather than just singing to a pre-recorded track.

kinda gets the mind off of just singing. sometimes i record that guitar track, too.

that's how *I* record vocals.

cheers,

Is this like in the Behringer Chronicles where the guy started 'off the beaten track' by using channel one of his new mixer?

Where's the rancid milk? :confused::D:D

Ah yes ... I suppose it is time for another installment of the spoiled milk chronicles.

Chapter 2:

"Sh*t's still spoiled. Behringer still sucks. Where did I put my headphones?"

i have to say thanks just for being able to stay on topic unlike everyone else :D ....

guys , i was just asking the question like a poll..if you didnt understand that by the first 2 times i said it. im not asking for help on how im suppose to record vocals. im seeing what YOUR preferences are inparticular, to compare different people's preferences and how different people do things. if you like recording with headphones with a loud volume, then say so...thats all im asking. if you like recording with monitors very quietly with guitars turned up, then say so. im just seeing what different people like to do. please dont mock me for your inabilities to read or understand a question or point of a topic.

I can't really imagine tracking vox without headphones. Why fuss with using monitors and having to deal with the bed tracks bleeding into your vocal tracks?

Its so incredibly standard to track with headphones- and so variable how loud what is in the mix- that your question (while clear) is hard to answer any other way than "uh... it depends."

Anyway- I tend to like my phones loud with the vox track I'm recording played back through it with some reverb. Sometimes I'll kick it a ways off center to help it stand out in the mix without overriding everything else. Sometimes I
ll kick one phone back a bit off my ear to hear my voice in the room better.

Uh...it depends. :)

For me, it depends on the piece. If it's loud, and somewhat hard, I will usually listen to the track, oud and in stereo, and then might have the vocal track come into the phones loud, but on one side, so I can hear it, but the backing track is louder and more prominent. If it's a quieter or some what softer piece, I might just turn it up, but not have the vocals come throught the phones. That way, I don't hear them, and adjust what i'm doing, until after it's recorded. Always on headphones though. No bleed that way. If I really have trouble, then I might take the phones off, and hear the backing from just one of them, and try it. Really just depends on what might work. For me, sometimes nothing...
