Recording vocals with music using Samson Go Mic

Excuse my ignorance but how to do I record vocals with background music with the Samson Go Mic? When I tried playing music out of my computer while using the mic to record my voice, the sound (of the music) is totally unclear and choppy. Do I need the music to be playing from an external player?

What DAW (software) are you using? The usual way is to put the backing music tracks into your DAW, then record the vocals onto a new track, then mix together.
