I just don't get it. I am able to record just fine in Audition , but only stereo. In the past with my onbaord card I could record my vocals seperatley in Audition while still being able to hear the beat while doing it . With this mixer & card I can't seem to do that. The mixer I have is the Yamaha MG 10/2. It doesn't have subgroup outs or buss. I don't know if that might be the issue to this. Is there a mixer out there that can mute the music so it won't read in audition, but i will still be able to hear it through my mixer so i can record just my vocals to the beat? I've tried everything you could imagine with tinkering the settings in audition & mycard settings plus re-routing this mixer. No solution if anyone can help it will be much apprecited thnx.

The gear I'm using
Audio interfaces: M-audio Quattro
EMU 0404
Mixer: Yamaha MG 10/2
When i record in adobe audition the beat gets recorded with the vocals. In multitrack one track is usually the beat and the others are the vocals but when i listen to the vocal part alone it still has the beat and I record with headpones in my mixer.

I have an M-audio Quattro Audio Interface & using a Yamaha MG10/2 Mixer.
Theres only a playback option in the control panel in quattro, but no recording.

Do you possibly have a track armed and/or have a track to pull audio from a file while recording?

Yes my track is armed that is not the problem. Like I said I don't know what the heck it could be b.c. I heard other people tell me they can do what I wanna do just fine in audition. I'm a expert in using Audition also so everything is set just fine there. I even tried re-routing my mixer, but no luck. I'm really confused & frustrated. With the interfaces i got there is no way of changing it in the control mixer options like it was with my onbaord card. For example you know how you could switch from stereo mix & just record from your mic using a onbaord card? Well with my interface mixer panel theres no option for that. I really wish someone could help & maybe have a solution to this mess.

Could be a limitation of your mixer, depends how you have this patched together.
If you have the soundcard output in a mixer stereo channel AND a mic plugged in a mono channel AND the soundcard input comes off the mixers mix output, you certainly cannot avoid recording everything already recorded back in with the mic.

Could you use an aux send from the mixer to a soundcard input?
...or a mic channel insert socket with a jackplug pushed in to the first click?

It's a shame how many are led into buying mixers that aren't actually suitable for multitrack recording. You do ideally need one with a sub/alt output or individual direct channel outputs, so you can set up a record send and listen to playback without re-recording it. With a 2in soundcard like the 0404, a sub/alt send is ideal since you can switch a channel to it with a button rather than re-patching cables.

Look at the Soundcraft Compact mixers that have channel record send buttons especially for multitrack working with 2in/2out soundcards.

Would those soundcraft compact mixer be good for what i wanna do? Do any of em have phantom power for condensers?
