Sorry I'm pist and I need some recording equipment asap. This may be the wrong thread but I thought you all might now whats best. Please tell me what is good to record vocals with? Not a mic but a recorder of some kind, digital, analog whatever just please let me know whats good to record vocals on. I don't need a lot of gadgets and stuff just quality recording. Can I get something good for 500 bucks? I already have a good mic, just need something to record to, help me fast.

If you wanna go the soundcard route, a simple setup like a Art Tube Mp for $89 and a Delta Audiophile 2496 for $159 will work...or you can step up to a Joe Meek preamp like a VC3Q for $199.....

why are you so angry?...dont let it force you to buy the wrong equipment...if you need something now for a specific reason, borrow or rent something to get you through whatever it is.....take time for research or youll be sorry......

what good mic do you have?...also, is it just vocals you are recording?.... because other apps have different needs......there are a lot of issues to address.....

I'm trying to get a project done that should have been done already but some things didn't go as planed. Vocals is the only thing that I need to record. It will be in use for a long time so I don't want to rent something. I also don't wanna deal with the computer recording. IS there a good digital recorder that is records vocals well.

The Korg D-12 at $900 and the Fostex VF-16 at $800 are both good full-featured machines. The Boss Br-8 will do a decent job but I think it lacks phantom power and I'm not even sure if it has XLR inputs.......if you are going to use a condenser mic with it, that is something to research first.

Put a Korg D-12 on a credit card and pay it off over time.....or next time you're at the local music shop grab one when they aren't looking and run like hell out of the store with it. It will save you money AND strengthen your cardiovascular system as well.

I hate to question you to deat, but i dont wanna just throw out anything to ya...do you need multitrack capability?...exactly what kind of vocal work is it and what mic do you have?....

I forget what the mic is its at my freinds house. But I know it records well because I'v heard some songs recorded from it. ANy why multitracking? Is that recording more than one track at a time? If so no I don't need that. I've heard about the boss br-8 and I read it records like crap because it has data compression. Suggestions need em.

Fostex VF08

8 tracks, no compression

2 XLR inputs with phantom power

built in effects processors

5.1 GB hard drive

$589 at www.8thstreet.com

There it is......the answer to your prayers.

what medium (cassette,CD,DAT) does the final version have to be in.....if its just one track, all you need is a good preamp (Art Tube MP, Midiman Audio Buddy, Joe Meek VC1Q) and you can record to anything for good quality.....a VCR, minidisk, even cassette tape.....

The format needs to be in a wav, mp3, zip, something I can edit together in some pc software like soundforge, or even use as a loop in fruityloops.

The VF08 has two tracks of simultaneous recording, according to the specs I'm looking at on zzounds.com

jiffy, is there a reason you dont wanna record straight to computer?....thats your best bet....if it has to end up there, why not put it there in the first place....how long is the project?.....

This is a hip-hop album, we have about 7-8 tracks down, beats and all just need the vocals, which I don't have the set up for. The beats where all made using keyboard samples and computer software (fruityloops, soundforge). So all we need is the freakin vocals. I don't wanna deal with pc recording because I plainly heard is sucks. secondly I don't want recording going on at my house. Cause I'll get a lot of people over here smoking pot, smoking cigs and pissing me off. So I want a portable recorder so I can give it to my boys let them record the vocals, give it back to me and I finish it up at my house in peace by myself.

how are you gonna sync the previously recorded tracks with the vocal you record?......

You gotta problem with people smoking pot and cigs?

Maybe the question should have been:

"Wanted: best digital solution for recording vocals that keeps my stoner buds and all their ho girlsfriends out of my crib...... for $500 or less......."

You don't want to deal with PC recording "because it sucks" but would stake it all on a Fostex?????? This just makes no sense to me. What is the rest of your input chain? Mic direct to disk? Hey, the mic isn't one of those Creative ones that comes with a soundcard, is it?

Hey, for 400 bucks you could get a Teac 3340 off ebay. It's pure anaolg. No digital hassles there. And all your stoner buds would get off watching the little dancing meters!

this thread is really funny...gave me a good laugh. classic quotes like
(paraphrase)
"i need this stuff quick man...hip hop album overdue!"
"people record vocals at their place" (hmm..not much stock in audio engineering eh?)
and everyones favorite "computer recording sucks..." and "i need it to go into soundforge", adding insult to injury.
good stuff.
