recording using the line 6 pod studio

hello,

I am trying to figure out how to record vocals/guitar using the line 6 pod studio and ableton 8. I have a shure sm58 setup with an xlr cable connected to the pod studio with an active mic signal. for the life of me, just can't figure out how to actually record vocals or guitar. the line 6 manual is downright confusing

Let's start here... If you run the Line 6 software (Gearbox? POD Farm?), plugin your mic and select the appropriate input in the software can you hear yourself through your monitors and/or headphones?
