Look Mom, I can play!
Having just learnt how to make soundfonts in Vienna (thanks to A1MixMan) the question now is how do I use them in CW without using a keyboard. I have a s/blaster AWE64 Gold s/c.
Step by step answer would be appreciated. This is all new to me.

Thanks

Even if you don't have a real MIDI instrument, you can still record MIDI in your projects using the Virtual Piano. The Virtual Piano is a utility that lets you use your computer keyboard and mouse to make music.

When you click the keys with the mouse or play notes using your computer keyboard, the Virtual Piano converts the information to MIDI data and sends it to SONAR. For complete information about the Virtual Piano, use the online help system.

To Install the Virtual Piano
Place the SONAR CD in your CD-ROM drive.
Open the Virtual Piano folder on the root of the CD.
Double-click on the Installer icon to begin the installation process.
To Use the Virtual Piano
Choose Options-MIDI Devices to display the MIDI Devices dialog box.
Make sure that Virtual Piano is highlighted in the Inputs control.
Click OK to close the MIDI Devices dialog box.
Choose Tools-Virtual Piano to start the Virtual Piano.
To read the online documentation, choose Help-Contents.

Please see my post reply in the other thread running https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=33722

HS 2002 which I use also has V. Piano. Todays task (in between chores) is to get to grips with all of this. Many thanks for your ongoing support, I will let you know how I get on. Brzilian, I downloaded and printed the page you recommended, thanx a bunch.

Lets see if I can get it all to work.

See ya!;)

Well here's the latest news.

I can now download and use soundfonts in Vienna.

I have loaded the V. Piano into CW and can use it, change instruments, record with it, no problem.

But how can I use the soundfonts in Viena in my recordings without a keyboard?

Can I use Viena soundfonts in VP? If so, how?

Also, if I have downloaded a MIDI piece from the net but want to change an instrument, say violin to guitar, how do I do it?

Sorry for me being so dense.

Well I have some progress. I now know how to change instruments in imported Midi files but only using the standard sound bank. I would still like to know how I can load my own soundfonts from my hard disk into imported Midi files and from Vienna into V. Piano so I can record (without a keyboard) using them. If indeed it is possible.

Wonderful! I have cracked it!! I can now import any soundfont and play it with V. Piano (until I get a midi controler k/board fron Santa Claus)

Now I understand what all you guys have been banging on about for so long and why CW is so cool. This has opened up a whole new world for me. Sorry to eulogise over it but I am over the moon.

Thanks for all the help, specially to A1MixMan.
