Hey, this is my first post here, and hopefully it won't be my last!
Recently, I bought a Shure SM57 Dynamic mic to mic and record my guitar cab (pretty new to the whole recording thing), so I could throw together a few tracks adn stuff.
Previously I'd been recording through a Digital Effects pedal, which sounded quiet electronic and artificial.
So I bought the mic, in hope of being able to just plug it in the line-in port on my PC and record.
I did just that, and it sounded horrible.
Wondered why, found out I needed a 'preamp' or an Audio Interface.
So i borrowed my friends Behringer Mixer with Xenyx preamps (just to see if it worked) and noticed that when I recorded through that, all that happened is that it sucked still, but all it did was make it suck louder.
The mixer was plugging in also through the computers line-in.
Do you know why?
Coz i'm stumped.
I'm thinking maybe coz of the fact I have a stock soundcard, but I dunno if this would make it sound that bad.
Its really flat, and sounds really fake.
Its not my amp (Laney GH50L all valve head) or my cab (homemade with Swamp Thangs and Tonkers), so I dunno what to do.
If it is the soundcard, would an Audio Interface fix that? Aren't they like an external soundcard and preamps and stuff?
I WAS looking at the Mackie Onyx Satellite, but if this is the best sound I can get on my budget, I might as well stop now.
Please help me
Any questions on setups and stuff which might help out, just ask.
Thanks heaps in advance
