I've got this wonderful little tool, a Sony MD Walkman, which I use for recording ideas to, either sung, played, or both. I use a clip-in/snap-in/pop-in mic for this, and what a load of noisy bother I get with that, although this isn't the problem. The problem I'm having is that sometimes it records over tracks previously recorded. I've been through the manual, bless its boring little self, and I haven't found anything pertinent so far.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Don't know what model you're using but...

Press the "END SEARCH" button. This should take you to the end of the last recorded track. Hope that helps ya!!!!

Hey, Dobro. Are you looking for a way to "lock" tracks themselves, or is your recorder jumping to some other track when you start recording?

I don't think there's a way to "lock" tracks. This would take some key in the table of contents (the "TOC" that everyone talks about), and I don't think that machine would be able to pull this off.

This same TOC manager might be screwing up when you record, recording on tracks that the MD thinks are empty... That's what I would think (other than a bad "pad" that might be registering << before *record*).

There's a great site concerning this. Lemme find it, it has gripe threads and solutions to specific model problems...

I hope this is what you're lookin' for, don't know if your model is listed... (cool idea, though. be neat for here...)

Am I badass or what? Found that page without any bookmarks lickety split... :D

Yo Kelly:

Not only are "your ears" on the long side, so is your recall and knowledge.

I have had early problems with my MD8 losing tracks; but that was caused because I did not switch the recorded tracks into the CUE mode. I don't think Dobro has that type of MD recorder. Maybe he has only a two tracker? Portable usually means smaller.

Kelly, you just fell into that category of people on this board who I have to buy a beer for sometime - the list is getting longer and longer. It's gonna be a helluva party. Yeah, that link has the goods - it's the End Search button (rtzstudio - you were right, you get a beer too). One little click before I record, and everything's cool. Cool.

Damn, I was amazed at how many different kinds of minidisk players there are - just look at the ones Sony alone makes.
