Recording to tape

First thanx to all who answered my first post. Embarrasing as it was you were all nice and responded with respect. Thank you.

I want to ask about recording levels from my computer sound card to my tape deck.
Is it better to have the sound card level low and tape recorder higher or a different combination? I'm using a turtle beach Santa Cruz and a Tascam 130 deck. I listen to very space/ambient electronic music (a la tangerine dream)
so I was wondering if there is a combination of settings that would result in a better tape quality?

send the signal as loud as you can on your computer without distorting the tape. It will take a few tries to get it right probably, but you can get it with some tries. But yes, you want the computer level to be high.
