Check me out, right.... I got a MG 10/2, a mic, headphones, MAudio, Cool Edit and of course a computer. I know where the mic goes, I know where the headphones go. I'm having a problem figuring out how to 1) record vocals through the mic (thru the mixer) using cool edit and 2) how to hear music from my computer thru my mixer into the headphones. I need to hear the music while I'm recording my vocals.

What sort of M-Audio card have you got?

You need to connect the mixer's main outs, or use the channel inserts, to the inputs on the card. You may need converter jacks if your card only has rca connections. In cool edit, I'm guessing you'll need to point it at the M-Audio drivers before you'll be able to record.

Plug your card's outputs into either a couple of spare input channels, or into the 2-Track input

In Cooledit Pro 1 you see a pair of buttons with only 1's on each channel in multitrack view. In Cooledit Pro 2, the newer labels of the same controls say "Out 1" and "Rec 1". You have to click those and the boxes will pop up with all the devices you can select for input (rec) and output. If you do not see a list of devices when you click these, your sound system is not installed right in Windows. This device list is delivered by Windows, not Cooledit or M-audio, so the sound hardware has got to be installed right in Windows.

If your headphones are in ouput 5, you'll probably have to select something like the 3rd device in the list, and that will change the "Out 1" button on the track to say "Out 3". That's just an example of what could happen. You'll see which one to select once you're in there.
