Ok...first the setup:

Mackie 1604 VLZ pro
Firestation

2 - SM58
1- B1
1- B3

Some random other drum mics

p4-2.53

Cubase SX; Waves

my previous recording was made with CEP, but since the drivers don't work on firestation, I am converting to Cubase. It can be heard @ www.lustingkay.com the recording was a pile of shit for various reasons, among them, I saved each track as an mp3, and I used my built in sound card and could only get 2 channels.

That said, I would like some input:

1) Should I EQ while recording
1a) should I EQ on the mackie (which I will use on the drums) or in the computer
1b) If on the computer, what are some good settings to start at? Same for the Mackie

2) One of my favorite vocalists is Kay Hanley, formally of Letters to Cleo fame, she has a very distinct voice, but there is also a definitive effect they use on her voice...can anyone take a stab at what that is?

3) There is a drum effect on a song done...sounds like they are coming from a tin can, I want to use this effect, but I am not sure what it is...can anyone take a stab at it if I send you the song?

I think that is about it for now...For the vox, and instruments other than drums, I am planning on the using the Firestation's pre amps over the mackies. Any input would be HUGELY appreciated!

I don't mind some eq while tracking, even on my 1604 vlz pro.. The last drumkit I recorded was PURE crap, so I did some modest EQing... I don't regret it. Don't overdo it tho.
