but the year i've been hanging around here i've probably learned more then the 4 years prior!

Likewise; This forums has helped me immensely. Every time I surf here I learn something new that drastically improves my recordings.

I've totaly neglected this thread since I started it but I'm glad most of you are grasping what it's all about....the help and support this forum provives us with. I'll get around to listening to everything sooner than later.

Keep it coming, there's some great stuff in here

Wow. I'll have to do some digging but I'll see what I can find from my Tascam 238/Peavey MD-16 days. It ain't pretty.

Well, I don't have much of my early recordings (late 90's, Tascam 4-track cassette, using an SM57 for vocals, 3 SM57's on drums and an AT Pro 25 for kick through an old mono Shure mixer, and guitars straight into a Digitech RP20). I remember having some fun with backwards stuff though. Also, I remember recording an Art Bell show once and fading UFO descriptions in and out of one of my songs. It was purely coincidental, but the timing was perfect, so I did it.

My biggest improvement has been in tracking and production, especially in mastering. Tracks from my first "album" got played on the local rock station, and they were clipping so bad it was pure distortion. I think I recorded from my VS1680 out in stereo to a SoundBlaster, then mastered it in Cubase VST with the "Magneto" and "Loudness Maximizer" plugins. As you can imagine, I basically clipped the hell out of it.

I moved from a Roland VS1680 to a full Sonar 5 setup now. I'll try to get up some tracks as I just started recording my new band. Gonna be fun.

Ok,... I dug up one of my first "master" tapes off the 4-track.

So,... I have two: "Moonage Daydream 1982" and "Moonage Daydream 2003",... at least located. The differences in these two cuts are startling. Honestly, although I've not even dubbed the 1982 version to 'puter yet,... I'd be utterly embarrassed to post it! It would not fit side by side with my other relatively well produced pieces I've already posted. I think I need a separate page specifically to post my most awful and lofi recordings, without spoiling the sonic illusion on my current page. Any suggestions?

PS: I still think this is a great idea for a thread. What I have is probably more embarrassing than I'm willing to admit, much less post!

here's my first recording. it was done with a walmart keyboard and some pretty lame mics. i was a junior or senior in highschool

Finger Funk

this is my latest. first time recording anything with these mics, and i may have been overanxious to just put a song together, but its alright sounding, still not complete
