Hello all, long time lurker, maybe 3rd time posting...
This may not be the correct forum for this, but I'm looking to do some recording in Los Angeles this summer and would like to find a reasonably priced studio that records to tape. My goal is to do the tracking, have the tracks dumped to .wav files (synced of course), then mix it myself in a DAW like Audacity or Reaper, something simple.
The music is basically singer/songwriter/rock type stuff ala Elliot Smith (yes, very original I know!). Any ideas? So far I've contacted:

Fonogenic
Red Star Recording
Any input on these studios or any other ones would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.
