Sonic Foudry's Vegas. Real easy to learn and use. Real high quality.

Have been using a Tascam 414 4 track to record Rhythm Guitar, Voice, Lead guitar, Drums. Recording through a Peavy XR-700 PA mixer board, Peavy Model PV microphones, Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine. Mixing down through an AIWA dual cassette deck and or an Optiums Professional Series dual deck. Am interested in using my computer in place of the 4 track. Haven't got much money to put toward programs. Friends have suggested using Cakewalk Home Studio 9, Cool Edit, N-Track, in that order. Using a Compaq Presario 5868 Athlon 600, 128meg ram, PCI Soundblaster 128 soundcard. Would appreciate any comments or suggestions on preferred programs, ease of use, capabilities etc.. Thanks

Dewey

Either version of Cakewalk is great to use (especially if you have garrigus book)

Thanks for the info. Looks like this program is a fair piece of change, although I understand you get what you pay for. I'm still looking around, reading and asking questions. Having never used the computer music programs, they look rather complicated to a neophyte. I'm trying to find someone in my area that is using a music program so that I might get a better idea of how they work. Until then I will probably stick with my Tascam 414. BTW this prompts a question. Can the Tascam 414 be fed into the computer line in jack or mic jack and then work on the recorded tracks in the computer

Thanks for your comeback. As I just posted to TrackRat I'm still looking and asking questions. Probably stay with the Tascam 414 until I'm a little more sure of what goes on and how, when you use a computer program. However so far, seems like more people use Cakewalk.

Hi Dewey,

What you might want to do is download the demos that are available on the Cakewalk site (www.cakewalk.com). That way you can try out the software before you buy it.

Best,
Scott
