Recording software and quality

Quick question... hypothetically speaking - if you use no effects, an identical soundcard etc and the same bit rate and sample rate, would sound quality be the same regardless of which software you used? e.g. would a 24/96000 recording on Cakewalk be identical to a 24/96000 recording on pro tools?

Essentially, yes.

Certain programs arguably sum better than others, but that's a whole 'nuther game...
 
So are we talking noticeable differences or 'theoretical' ones?? I have never had the opportunity to carry out the test I was describing...
 
I did a test a long time ago recording on several different programs and the only one that sounded different from the others was Vegas. The others were identical.
