recording softsynths?

How do I record a softsynth? :confused:

I figgered out how to play back the softsynth, I want to record it. Like on an audio track, just like a "normal" audio track. The softsynth seems to be CPU-unfriendly, and I am assuming that if I just record it I can ditch the softsynth. :confused:

When I record a "normal" synth ( I have a Roland), I solo the track and press record, my synth is hooked into my firewire soundcard/interface. How do I record a softsynth? I solo the track, set up an audio track to record it on etc, no dice.

I'm frightened, hold me :(

You do have a manual, no? Then there's also the SONAR Help system, ja?

To Convert Your DXi Tracks to New Audio Tracks:
1. Mute all tracks that you don't want to convert.
2. Use the Edit-Bounce to Track(s) command. The Bounce to Track(s) dialog box appears.
3. In the Source Category field, choose Tracks.
4. In the Channel Format field, choose mono if you want mono tracks, and stereo if you want stereo tracks.
5. In the Source/Buses field, make sure all 4 outputs are selected. This will create a separate audio track for each selected output.
6. In the Mix Enables field, make sure all choices are selected.
7. Click OK.
 
Another option is to route the synth out to one of your soundcard outputs, then patch it back to one of your inputs and record that on a new audio track.

What I also do sometimes is run the synth output thru my GNX3, and into the amp and mic it. That really dirties things up
 
If you're running a recent release (Sonar 4 or 5, I think) you can use the freeze function - it exists to solve the very problem you're having (freeing up resources), and simplifies the whole process considerably.

Your instructions worked perfectly, danke schon :cool:

I had never really used a softsynth, never had the computer power before ( got a new puter). I installed a demo, check this out:

Listen to the samples: some of them blew me away. The strings on the Beethoven quartet are stunning.

LFO, I am on Sonar 3 producer. No freeze function, but plenty of softsynths to play around with.

They better be good. I'm really tempted to download the trial - but I am very afraid I will like it. :eek:

Yes, 500 clams is pretty steep. HOWEVER, some of the user demos are so amazing, it would be absolutely worth it if you were a serious composer. On the user demo page, check out the mp3s called Paganini and Le Syn Hot. That's gotta be worth 500 bucks to be able to do that, you would have to pay a real violinist 500 bucks to learn and record the Paganini thing.
