SOUND DIAGNOSIS

Is is possibe to record these two sources (stereo keyboard sequence/vocals via condenser mic) AT THE SAME TIME direct into my duplex sound card?

Equipment available:
Dell p4 2.4g
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard
Marshall V67 LD condenser mic
Joe Meek V3CQ
Cool Edit Pro 1.0

Thanks in advance! ~~~Lee

Yeah, of course. If your soundcard has two or more inputs (it has two inputs if it's a stereo-card)... ;)

Yo Mosk! Thanks for the quickie answer. There is a line-in...and a mic input. I was always told to use the line-in input with my vocal mics and NOT the mic input. I believe quality was the issue. Does that mic input have a typical shitty preamp in it? Can the mic input be used as a vocal input? I wish I knew more about this soundcard, but I do not believe these questions can be answered with the "read-me" stuff that came with this soundcard.

Don't ever use the mic-input! It sucks! ;) It really does...

What I would do is somehow split the stereo-input to Left In and Right In with a Y-cable or a small mixer. And then record two tracks with the input set to left and right input. :)

Mic input sux. thought so!! :D What you are saying is to separate the lt/rt input signal via a "y" adapter, which I actually own. How will this allow me to lay down one full stereo track....and one separate vocal track into Cool Edit? You have got me cornfu-sed! LOL!

Nope, sorry. That won't work. You can't get a full stereo-signal from your keyboard and get a mono-signal (your vocal) at the same time, if you don't have a multi-input soundcard... ;)

Ok there. Moskus! You almost drove me nutz!! Thanks for all your help. Guess I need a "real" big boyz sound card for that capability. Thanks again!! ~~~Lee

I was very much considering that exact card, but Dell finally offered the T.B. Santa Cruz card as a 30 buck upgrade, and from what I have read on a great audio card review site, was rated good to mostly excellent....so I finally bought the new puter. I really needed to, cause my Dell P2 333 was getting a bit old for a number of reasons. Oh well, this Delta purchase will have to wait, being that my wife will probably have my head!

You should consider the M-Audio Delta 44 Delta 44. ;)

the Santa Cruz is a multi-input card.......

plug your keyboard into the stereo line input......

use the versa jack and change it to line input...run the condenser mic into a preamp with phantom power and into the line input......

CRIKEY!!!! Gidge!!! Are you serious? This will actually give me line-in quality for my vocals via the versa jack? Sounds great to me! Where did you get this info? I sure as heck couldn't find any resources. And do you think I will be able to route those 2 sources into separate tracks in Cool Edit so I can manage the tracks separatley? Thanks, dude! Much appreciated.

Stupid me. Not thinking to use GOOGLE for the search word "versajack". Sorry to take up your time, boys! I found THIS PAGE which states the whole situation. Thanks again Gidge and the Doc! You guys are a gold mine of info! Now to see if I can get both sources to end up in Cool Edit as separate entities. Should be no problemo. ~~~~Lee
