Hey Everyone,

I am currently running on a laptop computer based setup... here goes,

Athlon XP 2500+
Cool Edit Pro
Tascam US428
M-Audio Buddy
Studio Projects B1
Rode NT5 pair.

I record mostly acoustic guitar and voice. And I was wondering if I should get a better preamp to mic acoustic guitars. I've been considering the following.

ART TPS,
M-Audio DMP3
Studio Projects VTB1

The thing is, I am looking to stereo mic my acoustic so preferrably with a 2 channel preamp. I was told a tube preamp (TPS) may give me a better warmth to my sound. What is everyone's take one this? Any suggestions?

I'm also considering purchasing a compressor for the vocals/guitar. I am considering the following..

DBX 266XL
FMR RNC.

I'm leaning towards the RNC cuz it i hear its just better, any opinions?

Also, considering upgrading the B1 to a C1, is that a good move for a large diaphragm vocal mic? any other good vocal condensor mic suggestions?

Thanks for your help in advanced.

None of that stuff is going to be a big step up. I would wait on the preamps until you can afford a RNP or Grace unless you really need the extra channel right away.

The RNC and C1 are nice pieces.

I don't think the Audiobuddy is in the same class as the DMP3. From the mp3s I've heard comparing the RNP to the DMP3 I don't think the RNP is necessarily a step up from the DMP3 either. I will definitely skip the RNP when making my next upgrade. I think he should sell the Audiobudy for $50 and buy the DMP3 for $150. Then save up until he can afford something in the $400 - $500 per channel range.
