I have been using cubase le5 with my tascam us600 interface for some time now and when i mic up my set it doesn't record right. For example i mic my snare, kick and i have two overheads but when i record them and my snare records only on the right side and my kick only records on the left.So i switched to studio one i have the demo and it still does the same.Is there something I'm doing wrong i record them in stereo. Can someone give any suggestions on what can be the problem

You're recording mono sources to stereo tracks. Don't do that = No problem.

so when I'm setting up my inputs and outs everything is mono

You can leave the overheads as a stereo.

Do kick and snare as mono tracks

Your I/O is however you need it. But if you're recording ONE mic to ONE track, it's a mono source. 1=1.

Even "stereo" is just two mono tracks... But there's a difference between them.

Technically, I suppose your tracks are stereo too -- The left is most definitely different from the right...

Still -- 1=1. 1≠2.

(EDIT - New post)
You can leave the overheads as a stereo.
This is what I'm talking about -- You could record your overheads to a "stereo" track -- But understand that your "stereo" track is nothing more than two mono tracks, split apart. If you aren't going to want your overheads completely panned out, or if you plan on any sort of independent control over them one side to the other, you can record to two mono tracks also (and split them if you prefer).

Either way - Stereo is the difference between left and right. If there is one one source, there will be no difference.
