When I record something with the metronome on, the metronome sound is also being recorded! And if I record another track, the first track is also recorded in the second track. Everything I can hear thru the soeakers is recorded. I think it has something to do with the midi setup, but I'm not sure. I have a Sound Blaster Audigy ex.
Thanks in advance!

Check your recording settings in the Windows Mixer. You may have "What U Hear" set as your recording option. Uncheck it, and check only Line In or Mic In (whichever you are using to record through).

Yep, the What u hear must be disabled otherwise you get re-recorded as Daychay says, including the metronome.

That could be the problem. I will try that when I get home. Thanks for the help!

Still the same problem, the "what U hear" box was already unchecked. Any ideas of what it could be? I can't figure it out.

So what you are saying is that only the mic/line in box was checked in the recording mixer controls, nothing else? Make sure ALL the modules are checked in Properties to have a full display of all options and then uncheck all of them, re-checking only mic/line in.

If that doesn't work, I don't know else to suggest.

Better describe your setup. If the metronome is playing as midi, and you're recording it along with your audio, something is not right.

Please don't get mad, i'm going to ask the too-obvious question (the equivalent to the famed "is it plugged in?") --

Are you using a mic while the speakers are playing what's already been recorded?

If not (whew), then here's one more question -- are you using a mixer in front of the Audigy? If yes, describe how you have it set up.

i'm having the same problem. when i record a second track i can hear the first track being played back on it as well. i am using the 'what you here' method but i thought that this was the only way i could apply an effect to the particular track. if not then what is the best way to apply an effect eg 'birdtalk' in the creative mixer to the track which i am recording and still listen to the first track being played. thanks guys

I record my guitar through a GP-100 then staright into the Audigy. And yes the metronome is midi, could it be something else? If someone here has also has got the audigy I would like to know their setup in SONAR, such as midi in and outs.
Thanks

To be honest.

Al Chuck,
Has a very valid point.
Many moons ago I have done this, along with every other dum thing its possible to do.
If your recording sound, then its coming from one of two sources.
1: Creative (and/or) windows mixer
2: Your speakers

1: Check the above posts regarding the mixer (both of them)
2: Use headphones whilst recording (with nothing coming from the speakers)

Alan.

I have TTS Piano midi in, A: SB Live Synth out.

ONLY Line 2 in selected in Recording, nothing muted in win mixer. All inputs maxed out in Creative Live mixer.

Scobiemacd, if the What u hear module is enabled/checked, then you will record everything you can hear coming out of your speakers, including your new recording. So it is a kind of sound on sound recording. i.e. multi-layered. You must uncheck this module and if you do want to record over the top of another sound, combining the two recordings, then do it as a s"ound on sound" recording in Sonar.

Import the sound you want into Sonar either as a wav file (File>import Audio) or as a soundfont, whichever is appropriate. I never touch Creatives controls or settings. Can't think why I would need to?

Forgive the obvious, but have you enabled the metronome as a midi note?

Sonars Help says:

To Set the MIDI Metronome Sounds from your MIDI Instrument
Select a track in the Track view that is assigned to the MIDI device you want to use for the metronome sound.
Click Metronome Settings in the Metronome toolbar to open the Project Options dialog box.
Make sure that the settings in the Output and Channel fields match those for the track in the Track view.
Click on the Key box in the First Beat or the Other Beats section.
Play a note on your MIDI instrument. The note number is entered automatically. The velocity is not updated.
Click OK.
Your metronome settings will be saved with the project file

Have you enabled it by mistake?

Problem solved!!

Yes, finally. Like I said I have SB Audigy Platinum, and Creative have it's own mixer. So I had to use that to do some changes. Maybe that's your problem to "scobiemacd". I'm glad that's over.

Thats great news. But what were the changes that you made in the Creative Mixer?
