Your best bet around that price range is the audiophile 192 . Its been put through its paces for a year now, and the AP2496 before that. Very clean, clear. Fantastic drivers that I've NEVER had a problem or crash from. The reviewers on that site I linked to have their own issues, do a google search for a review.

I'd prefer an external interface due to lack of PCI expansion slots, so which one - Toneport UX2 or Edirol UA-25. The UX2 looks good, and has user friendly software included, but uses CPU as processor and may be a little gimmicky, whilst the UA25 seems a bit more professional / hardwaring.
Any opinions?

the ua25 will only let you record at 48khz.. it says 96khz.. but you can record and then playback.. you have to record.. turn it off.. switch a button .. turn it on then listen.. etc..
my personal recomendation is to save a bit more and get an edirol fa-66.
