I have a Creative Labs Audigy sound card and I am using n-track to record but it sounds horrible. My mic is a normal PC mic. I am guessing this could be the problem. If it is what kind of mic should I get or what am I doing wrong?

You need one of about 1,000 microrphones, and one of about 1,000 preamps. Seriously, there's no answer to your question. The audigy isn't great, but the computer mic is what's hold you back the most. You need a decent microphone and a decent mic pre. Which mic & which pre depends on what you're going to be doing.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

If you are on a tight budget, but want to get something that has the potential to produce a high quality recording my personal recommendation is to get a pair of Shure SM 57's. These are a highly regarded "general purpose" or "entry-level" mic to get, given their performance, price, and durability.

Also, don't be stingy on the mic cables you get to go with your mic(s). Get a high quality cable if you want to maintain the fidelity of the source.

Get familiar with the search engine though, you'll be glad you did. There is a lot in the archives to help you out.

by sounding horrible, what do you mean?...

sm57 is a great starter mic and will ALWAYS have a place inyour studio.....and if you can, jump in on Guitar Centers deal on the Joe Meek VC3Q preamp ($99).....

Mike

I have an ART tube amp that I'm using with a SB Live. Sounds great as long as you use the Line in on the Sb and keep your line in level at about 1/3 max..I'm probably going to upgrade to an Edirol usb audio capture in the near future.
