Hi,

I am new to this so please bear with me...I am in the process of purchasing a Tascam Portastudio 414MkII Multitrac recorder...I have some old songs on casette tape (just singing and guitar)that I would like to add some drums and base...can I send the songs via a casette to the 414 and then lay down some new backing tracks
Thanks Terry

Yes.

All Portastudios have line level inputs that will happily accept a signal from an exterior cassette deck or CD player where you can record that tape to two tracks on the 414 and have two left over to add additional parts to the original material.

If your cassette tapes are already mixed into a stereo recording, you will not be able to remove individual instruments. You can only add more.

Cheers! :)

Yo Ter:

Here is an easy way to add on to your "already" mixed cassettes.

Run 1/4 inch plug from the CANS outlet on any type cassette player directly into one/two channels on your recorder. One channel should be enough which would leave you the other channels to overdub bass and voice. Suggest you do the voice last after you get the other tracks cooking to your satisfaction.

You might have to jiggle the 1/4 inch plug from the playback unit as most cans' plugs are stereo -- or you can use a stereo plug from the playback and patch it to a regular 1/4 inch phone plug converter. Whatever works.

Have fun,
