Recording "notes"

I was wondering if there was a particular "method" of recording a breakdown of "settings" used for a particular song/project/mix while using a DAW. I am sure many pro studios probably have the engineer or someone speak into a headset or mike what the various settings are for a given take (rather than write them down).

Does anyone here have any suggestions. I have CEP, and Sonar and was just wondering as a prep to start my new "recording sessions."

Thanks

I do it the old fashioned way. I take copious notes on track sheets. If you have a digital camera you could take snapshots of the settings on your various pieces of equipment and console.

If you work on a DAW you should start with designing session templates you can save. After that you can save any session's settings in memory?
