When I press down a pad to trigger midi sound I can hear it playing and cubase recognizes it. Keeping it held down , I click record and it does not record...why? I do not see any midi note being recorded on the track. Shouldn't it record whatever is playing? I end up having to press the pad like one second after the recording starts in order to see the midi note being picked up. And if I set to loop record multiple takes it does not loop record...it keeps on layering.

How can I have cubase record without me having to start playing 1 second in to track and how can I loop record multiple takes on midi track?

If you have the pad pressed before you start recording, the midi information that tells cubase which note has been pressed is not recorded. Cubase therefore doesn't know that you have done anything, and it sees nothing to record.

So, you have to hit record before you play a note. There's no way around this.

Get Cubase to give you a couple of bars lead in, then record directly on the beat.
