hey there!
im... a beginner at theory for guitaring, but becoming advanced at playing guitar.

i just need some help.
i've been playing for about 5/6 years, and have now started to record.

i would like to connect my practise amp, to my pc - so i can record in Adobe Audition.

at the mo, i use a relatively good quality mic facing my amp. but i still want to get a better sound.

is there a simple way of doing it?
is it expensive?
can there be a direct route to my soundcard?

my prac.amp is a 15wt Crate GX-15R.

pic here

any ideas?

thanks! :) :) :)

You aren't going to like this.

You aren't going to get a great sound out of a Crate. They really just don't record well. (except for clean tones, those really work well) The only thing you can do is turn up the mids and turn down the gain and try to bypass anything that has the word 'shape' under it

What kind of mic are you using?

If your amp has a "line out" you can hook it directly into your 'LINE IN' jack on your soundcard, but I would advise against this because it won't sound as good as micing the amp. You could also use the 'headphone out' on your amp, but that will sound worse.

What kind of interface are you using with your mic? Do you have the mic hooked straight into your soundcard, or through a mixer/preamp?

You will also need to experiment with mic placements that will work well with your amp.

hehe...
yeah i guessed that the crate wasn't going to be much use...

but i am wanting to record clean stuff at the mo...?

the crate has 'headphones' and 'speakers'
is the 'speakers' the same as line out?

im using a sennheiser (spelling?) mic for singing and what not.
i have an adaptor which plugs onto the jack of my mic - which enables it to be plugged into my pc.

would that would by plugging my guitar directly into it?

many thanks for your replies!!!

If it says "speaker", don't plug anything but a speaker into it! Ever!!!!

The headphone jack will sound like crap as well.

Put the mic in front of the speaker, with your setup, that's the best it's going to be.

I would say mic your amp, but if you do go ahead & plug the speaker into the sound card, just make sure your gains' are down.

DO NOT HOOK A SPEAKER OUTPUT OF AN AMP TO YOUR SOUNDCARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL BURN IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A soundcard is looking for a signal that is a fraction of a volt. A speaker output is, even on a low wattage amp at least a 5 or 6 volts. Not to mention the impedance mismatch.

I repeat!

DO NOT HOOK ANYTHING OTHER THAN A SPEAKER TO THE SPEAKER OUTPUT OF YOUR AMP!!!! EVER!

eek!

thank god i read that.
does it really burn up???

i will try micing my amp...

thanks guys!
