recording keyboard to pc...

i'm trying to record drums from my keyboards to my pc by connecting from the headphone out on my keyboard to line on on my pc..

when the sound is recorded it is recorded mono & therefor loses any panned effect.

is there any way to record the drums as stereo? (without midi)

Hey kai13, if stereo is coming out of your keyboard (that is, if you plug headphones into your keyboard and hear the drums in stereo) then your problem probably is getting the right connectors (some plugs are mono and will turn stereo signals that run through them into mono...a stereo plug has two identifiable rings near the tip of the plug compared to only one ring near the tip of a mono plug)...make sure you have stereo connectors on both ends with cable capable of stereo (I have used an all-in-one chord with stereo phone plugs (the small 1/8 inch plug) on both ends, and I have also, if the situation called for it, ran left and right RCA cables (converging) into a (adapter type) stereo phone plug (which was plugged into my computer's soundcard)...for this stuff Radio Shack is your friend...just make sure you get an idea what you really need and don't count on the knowledge of the salespeople there.

if youre only recording to the line in on your PC, its probably mono... (if not plz, disregard the rest and listen to mawtangent)

so the only way to record stereo would be to record each drum seperately, to a seperate track, then pan it in your tracking program.... if you're even moderately serious about recording, i'd invest in a decent A/D input for your computer..

My question is why are you going out of the headphone output? Doesn't your keyboard have line level audio outs?

Anyway, if you must use the headphone output, it is most likely the TRS type stereo 1/4" plug (or it's 1/8" variant). If you plug an unbalanced (TS) cable, it will not work. Something like a TRS "Y" connector might actually work for you, the type that you use on a mixer's inserts.
