im searching around right now
anyone from around there?

i think id like to help out around a studio too.

thanks,
noah

ps how is the music scene around there,
i have to say. southern new hampshires taste in music is terrible. its alll hardcore. only a few good groups pop up

Check:
-University of Utah
-Brigham Young University (AKA- bringem' Home Young)
-Salt Lake Community college :D

I'm at BYU right now, and they have a sound engineering program here, and electrical engineering as well. I don't think they have a special combination major or anything like that, but I have been talking to the guy in charge of the recording classes, and he said that I would be able to take all of the recording classes and still do EE as my "major."

The music scene isn't too bad out here at all. There is a fair amount of emo stuff, which totally sucks, but the rest isn't bad. I'm in a blues band right now, and we're doing pretty well. There's always places to play around here, and there are concerts all the time. Salt Lake is even better for music than Provo is.

Tourettes, please do not take this personally, because in no way is my following comment aimed at you, or even have anything to do with you personally.....

There really aren't any serious recording or sound engineering programs in the state of Utah. None of the schools here offer a whole lot, and no ones else outside of Utah seems to place any stock in the programs here. I do not know exactly what BYU or U of U offer, but I do know that they are not highly accredited or sought after programs in the music industry. Electrical Engineering may be a completely different story and could vary greatly from school to school, but if someone were wanting to get an education in either live or studio sound, I would certainly not reccomend Utah as a destination for that.

On the other hand, it is absolutely beautiful here and the snow is about the best there is;)

I'm sure you're aware of Umass-Lowell right over your border. There's a nice regional tuition rate.

how about the neighboring states? anything close and in the mountains?

ah the mountains,

thanks for the advice,

Intern at Xstatic's studio ;)
There's a studio in SLC that used to take interns. I thought I read somewhere that they did some mixing or orchestral recordings for LoTR -its an old church on the west side. Sorry - nothing useful :(

You certianly don't want to work at my place:D

Also, there are two studios in SLC that I know of that take interns. In my honest opinion if you intern there you will probably never get a job anywhere else unless you plan on interning at LA East, or at Counterpoint strictly doing orchestral work.
