hey there everyone...i was wondering what type of software/hardware i would need to be able to record directly to my computer while mixing on my turntables.

assuming you can get a signal to the computer from your turntables (don't they have a special kind of output?) the first step would be to look in the back of your computer and find the audio in jack and find the appropriate adapters and hook them together. Then look in your windows start menu under accessories and click on entertainment and select the audio recording feature. Check your levels and use windows help to make sure the settings are correct. This will create a .wav file somewhere on your computer name it and store it like any other file....... If you are running Windows that is really all you need to record audio on your PC ...there are lots of more sophisticated and costly ways than this but if you can do this task then you might look into specific kinds of devices to enhance your recording....these would be a better sound card and recording software that would allow more/better ways to manipulate your audio........there are a number of free/shareware solutions on the web....hitsquad has a very comprehensive listing also search on this site and others for FAQs and tutorials for digital recording
buenas suerte

Someone has already asked this a few posts down but the above advice is sound if you wnay very basic recording needs. However, for little outlay you could buy a good soundcard such as an M-Audio Audiophile which has RCA sockets (that's phonos btw which are ideal for you as you you will have a turntable mixer with phono outs no doubt). If you buy a simple recording package like N-track or Cubasis you would be "cooking by gas" as we say here in Scotland.
