NEED HELP BAD i'm trying to build a home studio and its going great but i do have some minor problems. one is that i brought a m-audio mobilepre usb interface for recording. the problem is to record stereo i need to run my mics throu a mixer and then to the interface via 1/4 rca cables ( that's the only way to record stereo with interface going straight to the inteface with my mics only allow for mono but i want stereo. so my question is? does the firewire410 record stereo when mic are connected with it. Does is offer phantom power and will it connect with Stienburg NUENDO
and most importantly is it any good if what are some good ones (firewire not usb) i am on a budget any help would be nice thanks very much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Why do you need to run thru a mixer first?

The mobilpre has two xlr inputs, plug the mics into that and rejoice.
 
A) A mic IS mono. You can record it in stereo (if you want to route it twice, use twice the drive space, RAM and system resources, eat up twice as many tracks as necessary, etc.) if you want, but it isn't going to make a mono source stereo -- It's going to make it dual-mono, which is exactly the same as mono (except for the whole "taking up twice as much system resouces, drive space, RAM, etc., etc. thing).

B) You're using a $3,000 sequencer and you don't know this...?

C) If you're on a budget, I'd highly suggest selling your Nuendo license and using Cubase. Same audio engine. Take the extra $2,000 and get a book on basic recording theory - Starting with how "1" equals "1" (as "1" does not and will never equal "2").

my audio inteface does have two xlr inputs but they only record mono i would have to hook up two microphones to get a stereo recording does the m-audio firewire410 lets record stereo with one mic. does it have any phantom power any other suggestions for interfaces.

ALSO!!!!! i know how to use nuendo to a certain degree and i'm still learning my proble is getting the soung into the computer, ( on stereo tracks ) ( without clipping ) with mono you can't pan things to the left or right

PLEASE help with many many details

Delete the pirate copy of neundo, and go read that tweak's recording faq thing, its a great paper, and an excellent way to start

When you run into parts of that paper that are confusing, ask here, and people will help you out. At this point your understanding of the tools involved would be far better served reading that paper.
 
1 + 1 = 2
1 mic + another mic recording the same thing you makes noises with at the same time and with consideration to potential phase issues but from slightly different positions recorded to separate tracks then each panned away from each other & that result mixed down will render (if mixing to stereo) a stereo recording of the the thing you were making noises with.
Phase issues cancell out certain frequencies depending on the position but this only occurs with pirated software recorders. Using a legit prog & non cracked key or dongle will render you unphased.

Stereo recording is achieved by the use of 2 microphones recording the same sound source.

In essence a stereo recording is two separate monaural recordings that were created at the same moment in time.

Buy another mic, plug it in and go. When it doesn't sound right and you get frustrated work with your pans (not the kitchen ware) and then feel better. Also do take the previous advice on reading the tweakheads guide, or buying a book on audio recording theory as you are missing some important basics.
 
but how do other makrecording that show on both channels with only one mic
 
you're right i do need to learn a lot but please anser this is it possible to pan on mono channels if so how. to make professional audio tracks do i even need to record stereo

i've seen in pro studio the the vocal booth only one mic is hooked up how do they get stereo with only thet one mic
 
You CAN NOT record stereo with only one microphone... UNLESS you own a stereo MIC, but those go into separate channels anyways. Go to the NEWBIE forum and start learning what a microphone is, what stereo is etc.
 
If you record 2 Mono Channels at the same time you can easilly pan them in your software, Your software will have settings for paning mono channels left or right ,You can pan one the the left and the other to the right....

You turn the pan knob. It's in the manual for your $3,000 program... :rolleyes:

You don't record to stereo -- There's no such thing as one-point stereo. Even a "stereo" track is nothing more than two mono tracks panned out. Stereo is the DIFFERENCE between left and right.

The one mic in the "pro" studio is also recording to mono. Along with every single other track anywhere and everywhere.

You have to hook up to mics to get stereo. 1 mic=mono, 2 mics=stereo.

You obviously don't know how to use Nuendo because you haven't figured out how to create mono tracks so that you can pan a mono signal around. It's all spelled out very clearly in the manual...Assuming you have one.

This is very basic recording stuff.
 
another question is how do i hook up a vocal processor it has xlr inputs for mic not sure if they offer phantom power. dont have the book someone gave it to me. has midi and xlr outputs line level inputs/out puts and s/pdif inputs / outputs midi in/out-thru want to be able to record with the effect on my voice monitor it in realtime while i recording and even just talking all with very little/ no latency

( Lexicon MPX 500 24-bit Dual channel Processor) i look up the user's manual and did'nt understand a thing is it even a vocal processor
 
The Lexicon MPX 500 is just an effects processor. The XLR ins and outs are line level, not mic level.

The easiest way to use this would be to get a mixer.

Jez man everybody pirates these days..... lol I like the part when he says hes one a budget with his $3000 sequencer. Dude nuendo is terrible get Acid or Protools or something but dont just get the most expensive cracked piece of software availible.
 
Why are you so worried about stereo? Everybody records in surround nowadays.
