hi..relatively new to CEP and after searching the help files my problem still occurs..can anyone advise...

1. Running a stereo phono output from a master output on an Amp or 5 channel mixer into a 3.5mm jack 'line in' on a PC (realtek ac97 sound device/card).

2. Running CEP 1.2 on the PC to record the input from the amp/mixer.

3. Recording is started, sample rate 44100, stereo channel, 16 bit resolution....sound can be heard through the PC speakers and levels on CEP are ok.

PROBLEM : Recording seems successful however upon playback of the file recorded file on pc it exteremely quiet (almost silent) and the odd pop can be heard througth speakers.

After playing about and carrying out the exercise several times with the recording/input levels at verious settings the playback problem remains the same.

Upon playing CD's & DVD's on computer everything works fine soundwise. Copying cda tracks from CD's onto hard drive and running via CEP is fine to, this problem only exists upon recording inputs and playing them back.

Several friends are doing the same execise (with different hardware) as me without the problems i'm seeing.

Anyone experianced the same and oversome...any suggestions ???

cheers - Nick

Does the amplitude of the wave file you get from the recording look like the levels are reasonalbe or very low?

the amplitude does seem low with the CEP waveform, although not so low with spiking of the waveform in situ the popping sounds.

the master level is operating from the -60dB to 0dB and the amplitude from 0 to 300 (peak to trough)

a file which does play, a cda direct from a CD has an amplitude 30000 to 30000 (peak to trough)...with similar master levels.

My instincts are pointing towards the input from the Amp or Mixer (from normal phono out). The cda files prove the software works and the output from the mixer works on other equipment, its just the quality of the recording/playback of this external input that is the problem.

An AC97 can only use one input to record from. Have you checked that it's using line-in in Windows Audio Properties (or whatever soundcard mixer you can get from the taskbar icon)?
The low level may just be bleed through in the chip.
Most newbies only seem to find the playback mixer, but there is a recording one too (actually, a selector).

Problem Solved.....

Within the Sound and Audio Device Properties there is an 'Audio' tab...

Within the Audio tab there is Sound Recording Device.....my Realtek card in my instance.

Within the volume seetings for this Sound Recording Device there is a 'line in' recording volume adjustment.....the 'tick box' for this feature was unticked.....upon ticking it and applying the problem became resolved.

It appears that that the line in had previously going direct into the soundcard, be it to low or too high, and bypassing the control of this item of software.

Thanks for the assistance.

This was all within the Windows XP Sound Audio Device settings options.......no settings were adjusted in CEP......CEP was operated just as it's handbook suggests.
