Hi, I am a novice in the area of computer recording. I am planning to buy a computer based CD-R drive. I have a lot of classical music which are hard to find on regular audio tape. I want to record them to CDs before the tapes deteriorate. I have a Technics SCCH717 system. (It is a mini system with CD/tuner/amplifier/tape all-in-one). How do I record the music on the tape to a CD using the computer ? If I use my standard "sound recorder" in my computer, it does not record for more than 2 minutes :-(. Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I am desperate to preserve my hard-to-find music. Thanks.

I think I can Help you.

Since the windows Sound Recorder will not record for more than two minutes, I recommend getting Cool Edit (www.syntrillium.com) In my opinion and the opinion of many others cool edit is the best program to use.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. My computer and my home audio system are in two different places. It looks like it is going to be really difficult for me move either of them around. Is there a way, i can play a tape on my walkman and record it into the computer. might sound silly. but i still want to try it. thanks.

oops. I forgot to ask what kind of cable i need to connect my walkman to my computer and record ? Also in addition to the software you mentioned, I also downloaded purevoice from eudora.qualcomm.com and that also seems to record for an extended period of time.
